The last time a Pirates player hit 2 homers in 2 straight games was in 2010, When Pedro Alvarez himself did it on July 20th and 21st. Before that? You have to go all the way back to Jason Thompson in 1984.

The last guy to hit 2 homers in 3 straight games was Jeff DeVanon in June of 2003.

And, is there an example of someone hitting 2 homers each in 4 or more consecutive games, or is three the record?

Kenny, no — the longest streak of multi-HR games (at least since 1918) is 3, shared by Gus Zernial (1951), the original Frank Thomas (1962), Lee May (1969) and Jeff DaVanon (2003).

The streak like this I remember best is Nate Colbert on Aug 1, 1972. He homered twice in the first game of a double-header and three times in the second game. Colbert also homered twice two days previously (Jul 30 – second game) and once two days later (Aug 3).

Frank Howard had a hot streak from 5-12-68 to 5-18-68. Over 6 games he hit 10 HRs, all coming within a span of 20 AB. The sequence of HRs by game was 2-2-1-2-1-2.

Wow. Pretty impressive anytime, but amazing for 1968.

Wonderful Article. I have been saying this for a long time but no one
has wanted to listen. I am merely delighted I’m not really the only person and there are
people on my side. Appreciate it!
