The Jays SRS is still puzzling to me, highest in the league. Their run differential is still biblical at 97 runs but I thought SRS was smarter than that. Maybe it’s more because the AL East doesn’t really have weak teams? The Red Sox aren’t great but they’re not the worst in baseball and all the other divisions have two teams with substantially below 500 records. SRS would also like to tell us the AL WEST, not the east, is the best division in baseball featuring the powerhouse A’s in third place (superior to the division leading Yankees, Nationals, or… Read more »

SRS is based on two components – run differential and strength of schedule no idea hot that’s calculated).

Jays are 21-6 in blowouts but only 10-20 in one-run games. Pythagorean says they “should” be 58-39, instead of 49-48.

Everyone talking about potential trade targets, I wonder what you guys think of the marlins dumping some players. Of all the teams talked about, it seems like this is the only year in recent memory the marlins aren’t at the the top of the list of sellers. It’s not their record at 14 games under 500 with two solid teams in the mets and nats ahead of them. People are talking about the braves dumping and the braves are even 4.5 games ahead of the marlins! Certainly aren’t many teams more used to dumping than the marlins. Who they got?… Read more »

Why do you say the Marlins have improved with the Phelps trade?
He has a much tidier WHIP than Eovaldi, but WAR has a much different take.

1.5 to
0.2 , advantage Nathan.

Team defense looks to be the factor.

Ballparks are a bit different as well. Yeah, Eovaldi’s really been much better since his debacle return to Miami and it’s starting to look better for the Yankees. Still, Phelps has just as much control, cost, and is pitching comparatively and equally durable. So far the trade hasn’t been that dramatic as the Yankees gave up Prado but he’s been a pretty big disappointment so far in 2015 (and costs a good bit). I can’t help but think though that if the yankees still had Phelps instead of Eovaldi that they’d be going after another arm and shift Phelp’s 2015… Read more »

Doug – Just a suggestion but it might work better if there was a new open chat thread once or twice a week. Something that appears on the main HHS page. Otherwise I think people are going to have a hard time finding the chat threads, particularly any new or irregular visitors. Even some regulars may have a hard time finding it.
