Go ahead, post a comment here just to prove that you can!
I’ve been quite busy with my day job and unable to pay any attention to things here. Doug has done a good job of keeping me apprised and nudging me periodically to get things fixed. It appears something got corrupted in the old theme, and so switching over to a different theme has resolved the issue. I’m going to make some minimal changes to this new theme to make it prettier but do as little as possible to help ensure that it stays running smoothly and quickly.
Apologies for all the downtime.

Has word gone out yet on the HHS Twitter account to let everyone know>
Word has gone out on Twitter, that’s how I found out.
Testing new comment notification system
Yes, it is up and working.
At long last! Now I just hope that all the previous commenters will return.
Yep! Course we can also use some new blood as well.
And speaking of “previous commenters”, some guy named John Autin has been commenting on posts over at Fangraphs. Anyone ever hear of that guy??? 🙂
Does anyone know what happened to John? I haven’t kept up much with what’s gone on here, and was aware only of his disappearing.
I’ve e-mailed him a few times, but he’s been non-committal about returning to the community. Saw a few months ago that he was working on a post, but just for a brief period.
I wonder what changed his interest. I didn’t hear anything directly from him.
All he said over on Fangraphs is “Sorry to all HHSers for the disappearing act, but this isn’t the place to discuss that. :)”.
Thanks Andy for getting this up and running again!
Some of the comments I left while the database was down have disappeared, but even the 1995 Indians lost 44 games.
and I don’t see any numbers with the comments (and only relative time on recent comments)
Yeah I haven’t tried to add back comment numbers yet. And I was careful to delete only spam comments but may have accidentally nuked a few legit ones–sorry.
It may have been “The site is down” or “Can I post anything?” or something like that.
I thought the Cubs finally winning a World Series might have thrown the cyber world off kilter for a while.
Great to have the site back! I was getting to the point of letting it go (I’m not a Twitterer – or is it Tweeter? – so I rediscovered it just now through my regular rhythm of checking in).
Andy, I suppose you have everyone’s email contact. I know that anonymous as I have been here (my family name isn’t actually Munu, and E. Pluribus is obviously just a nickname from nursery school), I wouldn’t have minded if I’d received a message to let me know the site was back up. I don’t know whether that would violate online etiquette or constitute a felony, but . . .
If John A. were to return it would be wonderful for us all, but given the complexity and high standards of what he was doing here, day after day, I can understand why he might have found life an attractive alternative. I think Doug’s taken a saner approach to taking on the role of anchor point for us over the past couple of years, but maybe John will find a middle ground. I sure hope he knows how much he was missed. Those JA Game Notes were truly an art form.

I like baseball.
Well, just as I was about to pare my baseball distractions down to a mere two, look what the cat dragged back in….
Hello old friends! Nice to see this place back in action. I miss having rational conversations with people who don’t think Brett Gardner is the worst outfielder in baseball because his triple crown line was .261 / 7 / 41 when he was pretty close to the league leader in basically every other category of meaningful contribution.
I tend to frequent the echo-chamber of Yankee apologists these days so I apologize for my poor attendance.
Hey everyone! Sorry I didn’t check in this weekend! I absolutely saw that the site is up, and I’ve been reading your comments. I’m just going to let you know here that the 1974 NL MVP re-vote IS STILL OPEN. Let’s say we’d like to keep it open until Sunday night (12/18), 11:59 PM, just in case people need to go back up the thread and re-read some of the comments. SO glad to have the site up and running again!!!!
This is for Dr. Doom: You mentioned a while back that you liked commenter mosc’s WAR averaging method. I have created a spreadsheet that allows you do that averaging on your own. If you are interested you could ask Doug for my email address and you could get in touch with me. BTW it’s just coincidental that I am posting this so soon after mosc’s just recent post.
I’m so glad this site is back up, because I had just about lost hope! Decided to check in one more time, and here we are. I’m looking forward to more fascinating discussion to keep me engaged through these long winter months.
Newbie here. Just want some good baseball talk as the snow falls here in Maine.
Not a Twitter user—like Daniel, I was just checking back one last time, hoping against hope the site had resumed operations. Neat surprise! I hope all of you have had an enjoyable holiday.
Andy:
It would be helpful if you would reinstall the Recent Comments sidebar.
